Wind Sculpture, Fundación César Manrique, Tahiche

The kids pointing out one of César Manrique's eye-catching wind sculptures. The entire island of Lanzarote is littered in these brightly-coloured and unique creations. You'll find them mostly along the island's roundabouts - nodding, bobbing and twirling in the notoriously high winds that Lanzarote attracts!

Rachel And The Temple

This one was Rachel's idea - she'd suggested that I stand with my hand out like I was holding Mussenden Temple in the palm of my hand. She took the picture of me, so I offered to do the same for her.

She's a bit blurred (I must've been messing with the manual focus), but was happy enough with how it turned out, because she appears to be looking at the Temple - even though it was behind her!

Kids

I asked them to pose 'nicely' for a photo. Between Rachel's expert bug-eye face and the boys mugging around in a squillion different ways, most of my photos from today's day out were unusable (or just reserved for laughing at privately in about 10 years).

In the hospital

Panorama shot of the hospital room

The quality of this photo is truly terrible - it was taken as a panoramic image on my mobile phone - but it shows my parents in my father's hospital room in Lourdes.

This was taken around the 15th or 16th of April. After hearing that he'd taken ill on holiday, I got on the earliest available flight to France. I was picked up at Lourdes train station by the priest who was with their tour group, and told he had a serious tumour. Of course, my father and mother had no idea at the time, but he must have been quite shaken, because I remember how glad he was to see me.

Jake

Jake with his name beside him

Back when Jake was a nipper, we took him up to Malone House for a fun day they were having. While Lisa got dragged off by Rachel for a spot of face painting I got left with Jake and the dog (dogs weren't allowed into the event because they had livestock).

Anyhow, we were messing around on the grass, and I hit upon the snazzy idea of forming words out of the bits of twigs that were lying around. It didn't take too long to craft Jake's name out and then lie him down beside my handiwork for this photo - one of my all-time favourites!

Dim light

A combination of two seperate photos I took while at the St Patrick Center in Downpatrick yesterday. Still messing about with the various modes on the camera, trying to get them to work for me!

Conway's Bar

Conway's Bar in Ramelton. Don't like the look of those two in the doorway. They're obviously reprobates.

The Gang

A little group shot taken during our time in Ramelton.

James

Here's my old dad up at the top of Fair Head. We've gone up there a couple of times together. There's so much to see from the top of that cliff, and on a good day you'll catch the rock climbers scaling the face of it.

Pondering on Crawfordsburn Beach

I took this one on Crawfordsburn Beach back in the autumn of 2007. Yes, he looks thoughtful, but he's just wondering how far he can throw that stick in his hand.

Not very far as it turns out.
