Charles IV of Prague

This is a picture of the statue of Charles IV beside the bridge named in his honour.

Church?

This is what looks like a church building which is near to the Charles Bridge in Prague. From memory they were carrying out a Spanish guitar recital inside the day we were there.

Note to tourists with a Subway fetish: Continue along the road to the left of the church building for about five minutes and you'll come across a Subway. If it's as cold in Prague as it was the day we were there, you'll need a coffee to get thawed out.

Matylda

This is the Matylda Botel, a floating restaurant that was docked at the side of the Vitava River. I decided to make this a black & white shot using the same GIMP layering effect I've used on the other pictures in the Prague series.

Interior Of Prague Cathedral, Part 2

This is a slightly more dramatic shot of the interior. The funny thing - if you can call it funny - is that you could only get a clear shot if you were looking up. The Cathedral was jam packed with tourists wandering around and it made it very difficult to get a clear shot. I don't remember it being this busy in the Vatican a couple of years ago.

Eventually I got tired of taking shots. A combination of feeling bored, tired and antipathy toward more church art. Of course I missed some great photo ops at the same time.

Interior Of Prague Cathedral

This looks a little bit blurry, but it's a shot from the very back of the Cathedral looking toward the altar and the stained glass windows above. I did try to enhance the photo, but this is the best I could get.

The View From Prague Castle

There's a lovely open space just before you go into the grounds of Prague Castle and in that space there's a wall that overlooks the city. It's such a beautiful vantage point and you can see red rooftops and spires stretching out into the endless distance.

You can see a little ariel hovering above the cityscape in the left of this picture. It looks like a big television mast. In reality though, our tour guide told us that the same mast had been used to block communications coming into the city during the Russion occupation.

Cathedral Door

This is the inscription on the door of St Vitus' Cathedral in Prague. Apologies for colourising the image, but the original was slightly flat and grey. I was messing around with filters and techniques in GIMP and this was the end result.

Whatever. I like it.

Gargoyle

This twisted visage is one of the gargoyles that guards a doorway in St Vitus' Cathedral in Prague. I was surprised because it doesn't have the gothic intricacy of the other stonework in the building - the lines are much smoother and come across as fairly modern. Tim Burton would be proud...

St Vitus' Cathedral From The Side

Here's a picture of St Vitus' Cathedral that I took from the courtyard. It's such an enormous building, and the other parts of Prague Castle are so cramped on top of it, you'd almost think it'd been airlifted in. Well, sort of.
