The Arcadia. Portrush.
By Bill Gwynne (not verified) on 9 February, 2013 - 02:43
I lived in Portrush , 1942-1945. Portrush had thousands of troops there, British, American and many others. I lived in Causeway St, opposite the Palladium dance hall. The Arcadia was a hive of activity, dancing etc. soldiers and girls everywhere. One evening we all went to bed as usual and when we awoke there wasn't a soldier anywhere, they had been "spirited" away during the night. After that we all heard about D Day. We had three young American paratroopers billeted with us, we heard later, all three were killed in Normandy. The Arcadia brings back a many memories, which, at the age of 12, one never forgets.
Thank you,
Bill Gwynne.
