Blogging From Flock

I know it's been a while since I posted on here. I've been slowly updating the photo gallery, but rarely finding the time to cobble a few words together. Hell, I've been to Italy for a fortnight, started working on a Windows Vista course and am undergoing an intensive but interesting audit at work.

Anyway, this post has been prompted by Smashing Magazine article about desktop blogging clients. I thought I'd fire up the blogging client in Flock. Flock's not my main browser, but it's definitely loaded with features. Sometimes I'm surprised that more people aren't using it.

Having used the Windows Live Writer client quite a bit, I know there have been some issues with posting to the latest version of Drupal. Having added this blog to Flock easily, I'm expecting this to post without any issues. I hope!

The other thing I've noticed is that you set the categories at the point of posting, although there are tags at the bottom of the editor. I'd assume the tags translate to Technorati tags at the bottom of the post. Let's see, shall we?

Text formatting annoyances: there's no automatic way to add heading levels to the blog post. Also, when you select Bold and Italic, the Flock editor uses inline CSS to style the text rather than the semantically correct strong and em tags. Even worse, there are no keyboard shortcuts to activate these elements.

So far, a basic but disappointing blog editor.

Note: I've edited this post in w.bloggar, which has all of the missing functionality I noted above, plus it seems to be able to post to Drupal without any issues. The only thing missing is a WYSIWYG editor.
